From Book Blowout to Everything On Sale!: Could this be the end of National Bookstore (October 24, 2019)

Everyone loves a good deal.

I am no different.

But when I happened to pass by National Bookstore (NBS) in Greenbelt 1 last Monday and saw all of the Book Blowout for as low as P100, P200, P300 signs, my heart simply sank.  Bookstores–especially National Bookstore–has always been a part of my life.  They were the primary source of my school supplies and books before specialty stores like PowerBooks and Fully Booked emerged to give them a run for their money.

Remaining competitive

In the ensuing years–and likely as a means to remain viable–National Bookstore (along with their competitors) have either downsized or simply shifted a majority of their inventory to art supplies as well as other types of merchandise.

Today’s Toy Haul: The Penguin [Batman Returns DC Multiverse Action Figure] (October 21, 2019)

img_2764Posting this one before calling it a night.  I just know if I put it off, I’ll never get it done.

The Penguin

When people my age think about The Penguin, one singular image comes to mind: Danny DeVito in 1992’s Batman Returns.  Similar visual comparisons have also been made to the version that eventually appeared in Batman: The Animated Series.

It was (and still is) a truly iconic image of The Penguin.

In fact, the only other version of the character that would have the same kind of impact (with me) would be the Arkhamverse Penguin. Nolan North’s voice performance (Arkham Origins, Arkham City, Arkham Knight) all but sealed that deal. Created by Tedi Gustilo Villasor and Randy Valiente, we follow former Philippine Marine Corps member Dash dela Cruz, his childhood friend and art conservator Cam Camillo, ex-comic book store clerk Grey Sta. Maria, and psychologist R.E. “Dr. H” Hormillosa as they attempt the escape the clutches of The Klimcha.
