The Inspiration

Have you guys subscribed to Ed Brubaker’s (From the desk of Ed Brubaker) mailing list? If you’re into his stuff, you really should.

Brubaker (Captain America; the crime noir book Criminal; and—my favorite of the lot—Kill or Be Killed, etc.) is one of the industries foremost comic book writers to make use of the mailing list medium wherein he gets to puts out the online content that he wants to an equally interested audience.

That’s sort of the dream isn’t it?

Enter: Substack.com

Well, with the help of Substack.com platform, I hope to give subscribers similar updates on my latest collaborations, release dates, giveaways (yes! giveaways!), and by the last quarter of this year: The anticipated return of The Tedi31.com Podcast!

At the time of this writing, I have four comic book artists and writers lined up for interviews—so watch out for Pods in the near future.

Medical Report

I’ll be honest.  I am not in the best of shape today.  I’ve got the flu and didn’t think I’d even get a chance to post this entry tonight as I went to bed early.  Here’s a quick summary: No cough, running nose, or joint pain (I am grateful) but my throat is so sore that I have difficulty swallowing.

Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow morning.

Komiket 2019 (February 17, 2019)

Popped up for Day 2 of Komiket 2019 in order to attend the Komiket Awards 2019.  Lindol Comics co-creator and artist Randy Valiente was one of five finalists one of the Best Illustrator category (Out of a field of 53-57 entries I believe).

I also had a chance to catch up with some friends as well as take home some fine art and comic books. Continue reading “Komiket 2019 (February 18, 2019)”

Share Your Story: What happened to your Lindol Comics Blank Cover Variant? (January 27, 2019)

Antiquity by Randy Valiente (From the collection of Mr. Olan Amago)

After the dust has settled

After back-to-back monster events[i] to start out Lindol Comics’ convention schedule for 2019, a thought occurred to me this afternoon while I was working on the script for Issue #5:

“What have people been doing with their Lindol Blank Cover Variants?”

How we got here

Published in September 2017, the print run of the first issue stood at a solid 500 copies with 100 designated as the limited edition blank cover variant[ii].  Now, between the creative team’s complimentary copies, advance orders, and convention sales–more than a few are currently circulating locally and abroad.

So, I am curious, if you own one of our blank cover variants…how did you make use of them?

Are they stored for safe keeping?  Did you have a commission done by Lindol co-creator Randy Valiente? Maybe another artist worked their magic on it?  Did you have it graded?[iii]

Share with us your story. Continue reading “Share Your Story: What happened to your Lindol Comics Blank Cover Variant? (January 27, 2019)”

With the man of the hour: Gerry Alanguilan.

January 20, 2019.

After six long years, the eagerly anticipated Fourth San Pablo City Comics Festival finally opened its doors to the residents and visitors of San Pablo City.  The event, billed as a “celebration of Philippine comics as a form of art, entertainment, education,” featured a number of new and established independent comic book creators and publishers.

In the afternoon, guest speakers Manix Abrera and Gioseppe Custodio (aka Loser Mangaka) each took their turn onstage and shared some of their adventures in producing independent comics.  The Fourth San Pablo City Comics Festival was also not without its star value as it entertained a number of notable guest in the comic book field such as Leinil Francis Yu, Carlo Pagulayan, Stephen Jorge Segovia, Michael Jason Paz, Jeff Huet, and even legendary Filipino illustrator Doninador “Hal” Santiago–who just happened to be taking a walk with his wife along Sampaloc Lake that day when he came across a Comics Festival banner.[i]

The event also served as a birthday celebration of sorts for one of the Festival’s founders and chief organizer, Gerry Alanguilan, who turned 51.

Happy Birthday Sir Gerry! Continue reading “The Fourth San Pablo City Comics Festival (January 21, 2019)”
